3 Ways Our New Chopper Design Gives Processors an Edge

Choppers are an effective tool for breaking down clumps or dense materials in your mix, significantly enhancing the efficiency of your mixer or blender.

However, not all choppers are the same. Some run at lower speeds that make it challenging and time consuming to achieve a homogenized mix. Others feature designs or components that are more susceptible to wear, requiring frequent repair and reduced functionality.

Here are three primary advantages Marion’s newest chopper provides for processors looking to achieve higher throughput rates:

Durability

Running a chopper for long periods of time at 3600 RPM can cause your equipment to generate heat. Over time, prolonged heat exposure can degrade chopper components, which can lead to premature equipment failure and downtime.

Marion’s latest chopper design optimizes geometry and incorporates lip seals instead of packing material. This significantly reduces thermal fatigue and degradation, which means you can run the chopper longer with each mix and complete more mixes between repairs, according to Keynan Pearson, Mechanical Engineer for Advanced Material Processing.

“From blending dry pharmaceutical preparations with liquid binder, to dispersing pigments in cement or grout mixes, our new and improved chopper delivers high-precision cutting at lower temperatures,” Pearson said. “The end result is a faster mix under more consistent mixing conditions.”

Easy Maintenance

Old equipment is rarely optimized for the demands of modern manufacturing. When that equipment fails, repairs are often complex and can require uncommon or discontinued spare parts. With this understanding, Marion continues to review and refine its line of processing equipment to keep up with new technologies while also making its products more efficient and easier for you to operate.

The new chopper design includes a convenient all-in-one cartridge assembly that makes it easy to remove from outside the mixer, increasing safety and significantly reducing the length of downtime for repair and replacement.

“Our customers are always asking how we can help them eliminate time-consuming and hazardous maintenance work,” Pearson said. “One of our goals with the new chopper design was to make maintenance as simple, safe and pain-free as possible. In fact, you can remove the new chopper in minutes – not hours – conveniently from outside of the machine.”

Prevents Contamination and Leaks

Marion equipment is designed with hygiene in mind; from pharmaceutical to food industries, the cleanliness of your equipment is paramount to the success of your business.

Optimizing our chopper with a leak-resistant geometry ensures your cleaning process is as efficient as possible. In addition, tighter tolerances and a high-speed, rotation-rated lip seal add another layer of leak and contamination prevention.

The result? A chopper that lasts longer and helps you get the most out of your product.
